Dimmock Commits To ARC Campaign In 2024

by Mar 18, 2024

Peter Dimmock has committed to competing in the full Australian Rally Championship in 2024 for the first time.

At 59, Dimmock plans to participate in every championship round this year to tick the box before he turns 60.

A determined and experienced competitor, the Canberra local, won’t just be looking to make up the numbers. Following a complete rebuild of his Datsun 240Z, he will also be out to win the Classic 2WD class this year.

Giving his campaign an early boost, the opening round of this year’s championship will take place on roads Dimmock knows well, with Rally Canberra moved to the season opener this year.

Having started his rallying career in 1983, the experienced local rally driver has spent the majority of his life competing on the roads in and around the ACT in a variety of national, state, and club-level events over the years.

“Canberra is a home event for me,” said Dimmock.

“I grew up driving here, so I know the roads extremely well.”

“Back in 1997, I finished 7th outright in FIA Rally of Canberra driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo II.”

“More recently, I drove the Ford Fiesta last year and finished fourth in the 2WD Cup class.”

Teamed up with experienced co-driver Paul Bennett this year, the pair will compete in Dimmock’s completely rebuilt Datsun 240Z following a crash in the Narooma Forest Rally back in May.

The classic Datsun is the same car in which Dimmock finished runner-up in the 2019 New South Wales Rally Championship’s Classics class. It returns to action after being fully rebuilt from the firewall forward following a 10G crash during last year’s Clubman Rally Series event.

The family-run team based in Canberra is changing its focus. Peter’s son, James Dimmock, will take a break from ARC competition in 2024 to focus on his newly started business. However, expect to see James at select rally events later in the year.

Peter would thank his supporters, including Trailer Camper Australia, CBR Sparkies Canberra and Stew Wilkins S. W. Motorsport in Sydney.

The Australian Rally Championship commences with the Rally of Canberra, April 5-7.
