Jayden Ojeda Selected For International Mercedes Test
The selection comes off the back of exceptional performances in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia with Harrolds Volante Rosso Motorsport and will see the Sydney-based driver head to Spain to partake in the test program at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, November 9-11.
Ojeda was hand-picked by front-running ADAC GT Masters and DTM squad Landgraf Motorsports for the Young Driver component of the week-long Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Test program. The team’s regular star driver, Maro Engel, is well known to Australians for his appearances in the Supercars Championship and Bathurst 12 Hour.
“We are happy to acquire Jayden Ojeda to participate in this year’s AMG Young Drivers test together with us. The development of young talents are a mainstay of LANDGRAF Motorsport.” said Mr. Landgraf.
Competing against young drivers from all around the globe, the 24-year-old will take part in one of two half-hour sessions at Valencia, with the top 10 from each qualifying for Friday’s session; the top five of which receive a new set of Pirelli tyres. Two drivers will then be honoured at the AMG Champions United event on November 11 and receive a participation in the IGTC GULF 12HOURS.
“I’m rapt! I’m really looking forward to getting over there and enjoying every moment of what is an awesome opportunity. I’ve really enjoyed my racing this year, and this only adds to it.” said Ojeda.
“Considering I hadn’t driven a GT3 car at the start of the year, to now be selected to compete in the Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Young Driver Test in Spain is amazing.”
“I can’t thank Chris Papadopoulos, Josh Hunt and Matt Harvey from Volante Rosso Motorsport enough for giving me the chance to race in GT World Challenge Australia this year, along with all the work they’ve done in the background to make this all happen.”
What makes Ojeda’s selection so remarkable is that the young driver only has eight starts in GT3 equipment to his credit.
The 2023 Bathurst 6-Hour winner and four-time Bathurst 1000 starter joined the Harrolds Volante Rosso Motorsport to race alongside Ross Poulakis for the second round of the 2023 Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia season.
In the four rounds since, Ojeda has helped the pairing secure two pole positions and a race win, with one round for the 2023 season still remaining.
The international recognition follows a career-best Supercars result with a ninth-place finish alongside Jack Le Brocq in this year’s Bathurst 1000.
