Tigani Motorsport Secures Double Podium at Mount Panorama

Tigani Motorsport has once again delivered on the international stage with a double-class podium result at the Bathurst 12 Hour over the weekend.

The Wollongong-based squad’s two entries in the annual once-around-the-clock endurance race at the iconic Mount Panorama circuit earned second and third places in the Silver Class and secured an impressive 14th and 15th outright.

It was an outstanding result for the team, who were competing amongst a host of international teams and drivers, with Bathurst 12 Hour also serving at the opening round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.

In the Valmont-backed Audi, Marcel Zalloua, Sergio Pires, Luke Youlden and Brad Shiels showed a strong pace for the first 8 hours of the race, not only leading Silver Class but also regularly featuring in the top ten overall.

Unfortunately, when the rain arrived, an electrical issue with the Audi’s rain light saw the Valmont entry lose a few laps while rectifying the issue. Bouncing back with a solid drive in the final hours of the race to secure second place in class.

On the other side of the garage in the Supabarn-backed Mercedes AMG, clean and consistent drives from James Koundouris and Theo Koundouris, backed up by David Russell and Jonathon Webb, allowed them to recover from being spun at Forrest Elbow by a rival car early in the race to take the final spot on the podium in the Silver Class.

The spin put the Mercedes down a lap early in the race, but they continued to push on to finish just behind the Valmont Audi.

Following the Bathurst 12 Hour, Team Owner Nathan Tigani was proud of the result of his team against manufacturer-backed international GT teams.

“It’s a good weekend when you’ve got two cars of the podium at Mount Panorama,” said Tigani.

“The Valmont guys, Marcel, Sergio, Luke and Brad, were near faultless all weekend.”

“It was a great drive by the boys, especially Luke, to come back from the small setback with the rain light failure.”

“If it wasn’t for that, I think we would have been right in the mix for top ten outright.”

“While the Koundouris boys in the Supabarn entry were consistently improving all weekend. Backed up by D Rus and Jono, they kept building throughout practice and the race.”

“I am so proud of all the guys and girls here at Tigani for all their efforts ensuring we had two well-prepared, fast race cars at Bathurst.”
